Arkansas Soybean Promotion Board

Soybeans Today January 2000

From The Chairman

Art Simpson, chairman Arkansas Soybean Promotion Board

Dear Arkansas Soybean Producer:

Welcome again to "Soybeans Today," the annual report from the Arkansas Soybean Promotion Board. This publication is funded by the Board and produced by the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture. Its purpose is to keep you, the soybean producer, informed about research and other studies being conducted with your checkoff dollars.

The Board considers the administration of your checkoff contributions a tremendous responsibility. We strive to give you the greatest possible return for your investment. "Soybeans Today" highlights some of the program's accomplishments.

As you know, funds collected from the soybeans checkoff program are a percentage of the value of the crop harvested each year. Low prices and reduced yields this past year have meant difficult times for farmers. It has also been difficult for the Board, with its limited budget, to conduct programs for producers. With your profitability our main goal, the Soybean Promotion Board has worked hard to allocate the available funds in ways that give you the most benefits. As you read this publication, I hope you find areas that benefit you.

With conditions as they are, I believe the checkoff program and the research and market development efforts it has funded will be important factors in sustaining the soybean industry in Arkansas.

Your dollars are funding work to increase yields, reduce production costs and develop new products that will provide new marketing opportunities and increase utilization of the soybeans you produce.

As always, your input is important to the Arkansas Soybean Promotion Board. If you want to offer suggestions or make comments about the programs conducted on your behalf, contact me or any other Board member. For more information about the Board and the programs it conducts, visit our web site at www.arspb.org.

Sincerely,
Signature of Art Simpson
