Soybeans Today January 2001
From the Chariman
Dear Arkansas Soybean Farmer:
It's my pleasure to welcome you to the latest edition of "Soybeans Today," the annual report of the Arkansas Soybean Promotion Board.
As you read this, you'll find a variety of research programs and positive results that are beneficial to your farming operation. As always, our goal is to improve profitability for soybean farmers, and we sincerely hope our efforts are paying off for you.
This program is made possible by your contributions. The money the Arkansas Soybean Promotion Board has available for these efforts is your money, and we consider it an awesome responsibility to decide how to best use these funds. The Board is made up of nine members who are all farmers, just like you and me. We work hard to ensure the highest return on your investment in checkoff dollars.
Thanks to our relationship with the Arkansas Farm Bureau Federation, we're able to minimize administrative expenses so the money you contribute actually funds research and promotion programs designed to improve your bottom line. This past year, our total administrative costs were less than 1 percent of our total budget. I think that's pretty impressive.
As we make decisions about how the funds are used, we do the best we can to fund projects and activities we think the soybean farmers of Arkansas would want. As you read this, please take note of the efforts currently being conducted and let us know if there are other things that you would like to see funded, or if you think there are better ways to use these funds. If you do, please contact me or any other Arkansas Soybean Promotion Board member listed in this publication.
Finally, I want to encourage you to maintain a close relationship with your local Extension agents. We're fortunate to have a good working relationship with the U of A Division of Agriculture personnel, both in the Agricultural Experiment Station and the Cooperative Extension Service. The results of the work carried out because of the checkoff is primarily disseminated to you through your local extension agents. Stay in contact with them for up-to-date production recommendations that are a result of the research work paid for by your checkoff dollars.
Sincerely,
David Walt, Chairman
